Discover the story about Leonardo Da Vinci's Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa was painted between 1503 and 1506 in Florence, Italy.

Leonardo used oil on a poplar wood panel, applying very fine, layered brushwork (sfumato) to create soft transitions between light and shadow.

He was inspired by human expression, realism, and the study of light and anatomy, aiming to capture a lifelike psychological presence.

The portrait is believed to depict Lisa Gherardini, the wife of a Florentine merchant, Francesco del Giocondo.

Today, it is displayed at the Louvre Museum in Paris, France.
