Painted between 1899 and 1926, this work is part of Monet’s famous Water Lilies series from his garden in Giverny. He painted it to study the changing light and reflections on water, especially in the evening.

The series was inspired by his own garden and love of nature. Today, works from it can be seen at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris.
