Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night was painted in 1889 in an asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. It is an oil on canvas work showing a swirling night sky above a quiet village.

The painting was inspired by the view from his window, shaped by his imagination and emotions. Van Gogh was also influenced by Japanese art prints.

Today, it is displayed at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.
